I’ve seen this reblogged a lot and underneath there is a bunch of self righteous blather about this or that. A Sample:
2. As a culture we actively work to dehumanize and oppress people (mostly women) who work in the adult entertainment industry.
Now if that wasn’t the vaguest and least verifiable statement I have ever read I don’t know what is.
But I guess it connected with a lot of people on tumblr, so whatever. Now I know what we as a culture do…
Also, Sasha Grey is awesome.
It’s not self-righteous it’s…true :/ the whole video/issue in general is about how people are treating Sasha Grey as if she has no value, they’re looking down on her for former career and certainty dehumanizing her. Instead of focusing on the good deed she did by volunteering her time to read to a class of kids, they’re disgusted that she dared to even be in a room with children because she starred in adult films. The original post made some excellent points. It sucks that even pointing these things out is brushed off and complained about so quickly.
I’m so conflicted when it comes to Sasha Grey. Like I completely and without a doubt believe she has a right to volunteer and be an active part of her community in whatever capacity she chooses just like any other citizen but I guess it’s just the choices that she made in the porn industry don’t really strike me as particularly sexually liberating so all her talk about addressing the stigma woman in that industry have to face kind of ring false to me.
i agree with runawaystarling! the type of porn scenerios that she repeatedly decided to take part in are the most horrifyingly demeaning i’ve ever seen.. it’s a contradiction of her claims. her choices to do the types of porn she often did don’t reflect her statements now and over the years that she is a sexually liberated woman with high self esteem and got into the business to break negative stereotypes about the porn industry. honestly, i found the VAST majority of her work to be the most degrading and saddening porn that i’ve ever seen. i do love sasha in interviews. i think she would be great company, a great conversationalist. she is clearly intelligent, articulate and complex, BUT it just goes to show you that no matter how smart a girl may be, she is just as capable and likely as a less intelligent girl of being masochistic, self-destructive, self-abusive and hypocritical.
Fuck it, I totally do. I’m sick of everyone who voted for him in ‘08 complaining about how “disappointed” they are. Guess what? He’s a real human, not a magician or a unicorn or a marketing campaign about dreams. Did he live up to everything he said on the campaign trail? No. Does any politician? No. Does that make voting for a republican (and seriously, take a LOOK at the republicans) or not voting better? No.
The Not Batshit Crazy One 2012.
